USAO Uses a Hot Start to Cruise to Victory Against Randall

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Tuesday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (20-11, 10-5 SAC) got back on track with a 10-4 triumph against Randall University (1-25, 1-10 NCCAA). The win is the second of the season against RU, with the Drovers outscoring the Saints 34-5 in total.

 

The Drovers got off to a hot start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, followed by five more in the second, and one in the third to claim a 9-0 going into the fourth inning, however the Saints would outscore the Drovers 4-1 for the remainder of the contest. RU scored once in the fourth, twice in the eighth, and once in the ninth. USAO's final run came in the bottom of the seventh inning.

 

As a team, the Drovers produced 12 hits and reached the bases on six walks, while the Saints tallied four hits and drew four free passes. Defensively, USAO committed one fielding error, while Randall was unblemished on defense. 

 

Nine different pitchers delivered 1.0 inning of work for the Drovers. Naton Herchock, Megumi Fukuda, Jakob Brandenberger, Azalius Lewis, Julian Pokorny, and Tristan Perry each tossed scoreless innings on the mound. 

 

The Drover offense was led by a trio of multi-hit performances, including Ricky Requejo's 3-5 performance. Requejo launched three doubles and drove in three runs. Gage Ninness concluded 2-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored, and two runs batted in, while Corey Morro went 2-5 with a triple and two runs scored. 

Peyton McDowall crushed his seventh home run of the season as he went 1-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Ian Ortiz singled, scored, and drove in a run. Jaden Wiley singled and scored a run, while Josh Maysonave singled and drove in a run. Nolan Herchock also singled in the win. Duncan Key walked three times, and Boone Lasater scored three times as Key's courtesy runner. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will now hit the road for a three-game series at College of the Ozarks on March 28-29 in Point Lookout, Mo. Friday's double header is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM CT, followed by a 12:00 PM CT first pitch for Saturday's series finale.
