Drovers Score 37 Runs in Double Header Sweep at OPSU
GOODWELL, Okla. – Friday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (14-18, 9-11 SAC) opened the weekend with a double header sweep on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State University (11-24, 3-17 SAC). The Drovers opened the series with a dominant 18-4 win, prior to a 19-3 drumming in game two. With the wins, the Drovers improve to 27-0 in head-to-head matchups against the Aggies all-time, dating to March 2018.
GAME 1
The Drovers completely dominated from the very start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, followed by six runs in each of the next two innings.
Already holding a 16-0 lead, the Drovers plated two more runs in the top of the fourth.
OPSU scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth, prior to scoring their final three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
As a team, the Drovers offense produced 16 hits and reached on five walks, while the Aggies tallied six hits and drew two walks. OPSU committed five fielding errors, while USAO fumbled the ball once on defense.
Tyson Noel got the start on the mound and improved his record to 3-4 as he went 5.0 innings, allowing only one run on four hits, and he struck out nine batters. Yohandel Santana pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the sixth, prior to AJ Scifres allowing two earned runs in the seventh.
USAO's offense was led by a trio of powerful performances from Henry Garcia, Solomon Harwood, and Gabe Clyden. Garcia concluded 3-5 with his ninth home run of the season, along with three runs scored and four runs batted in. Harwood finished a triple shy of the cycle with a single, double, and a home run, in addition to a run scored and three runs batted in. Gabe Clyden contributed a 4-5 performance that included two singles, a double, a home run, two runs scored, and five runs batted in.
Connor Martin went 2-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Anthony Hampton went 2-2 with a home run, a walk, and two runs scored.
Corey Morro concluded 1-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and a run batted in, while Angel Tiscareno went 1-2 with a double.
GAME 2
For the second game in a row, it was all USAO from start to finish. The Drovers plated three runs in the top of the first, followed by a four-run rally in the second. USAO's offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the fourth to stretch the advantage to 15-0.
OPSU scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth, before USAO scored two runs in each of the next two innings to hold a 19-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
The Aggies scored once in the bottom of the sixth and once in the seventh before the final out was recorded.
As a team, the Drovers offense produced 13 hits and reached on 14 walks, while the Aggies tallied six hits and drew three walks. Both teams committed one fielding error.
Brian Ereu got the start on the mound and improved his record to 2-5 by delivering 5.0 innings of work, allowing just one run on four hits, and he struck out eight batters. Julian Pokorny and Luke Naranjo each pitched one inning in relief.
USAO's offense was led by Connor Martin's perfect game at the plate, going 1-1 with a grand slam, two walks, three runs scored, and four runs batted in.
Henry Garcia finished 2-2 with a triple, two walks, four runs scored, and a run batted in. Solomon Harwood homered for the second game in a row as he went 2-3 with a walk and three runs batted in. Alfonso Camacho drove in four runs as he went 2-3 with a run scored.
Luke Fox went 1-2 at the dish with a triple, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Gabe Clyden hit a home run for the second game in a row, and he scored twice.
Derrick Morillo doubled once, while Dawson Robbins, Corey Morro and Brandon Latter each singled.
Anthony Hampton walked twice, drove in three runs, and drove in a run.
