Season Comes to an End as USAO Drops Game Three at #19 MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the No. 7 seed University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (21-24, 13-14 SAC) had their season brought to an end with a 12-4 loss in the first round of the SAC Tournament at No. 2 seeded Mid-America Christian University (35-12, 20-7 SAC). On Friday, the Drovers dropped the series opener 8-5 but kept their season alive with a thrilling 8-7 win in game two, forcing the decisive game three.

In total, the Drovers are now 54-24 against the Evangels in head-to-head matchups since 2005. Furthermore, USAO has won 43 of the last 57 meetings between the rivals.

 

The Drovers once again claimed an early lead, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a pair of solo homers from Connor Martin and Duncan Key. However, the lead was short-lived as the Evangels responded with four runs in the bottom of the first.

USAO pulled the score even at 4-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the third but were unable to add anymore for the duration of the contest.

MACU scored two in the fourth, five in the fifth, and their final run in the sixth.

 

As a team, the Drovers offense produced eight hits and reached on nine walks, while the Evangels tallied 14 hits and drew six walks. USAO committed a pair of fielding errors, while MACU was unblemished on defense.

 

Kason Johnson got the start on the mound for the Drovers and went 4.0 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and struck out four batters. Layton Bryan pitched the next 2.0 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, and he struck out three batters. Jaxon McDonald pitched 2.0 scoreless innings to close out the game for USAO.

 

USAO's offense was led by Duncan Key's three-hit performance, going 3-4 with a walk and his second home run of the season. Connor Martin concluded 1-5 with his sixth long-ball of the season. Corey Morro and Luke Fox each singled and drove in a run. Alfonso Camacho and Anthony Hampton each singled in the season finale.
