McCalister’s Triple-Double Highlights USAO’s Win on the Road at JBU

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (5-6, 1-5 SAC) earned their first conference-win with an impressive 77-70 performance on the road at John Brown University (8-4, 5-2 SAC). 

 

The Drovers used a terrific start to claim a 13-6 lead five minutes into the contest and proceeded tp control a 45-34 advantage going into the break.

Following the break, the Golden Eagles looked like a new team and steadily chipped away at the USAO lead, pulling the score even at 56-56 with 7:59 remaining in the game. However, the Drovers held strong and once again gained separation late in regulation.

 

At the conclusion of the contest, USAO's offense shot 31-63 (.492) from the field, 9-21 (.429) from beyond the arc, and only 6-15 (.400) from the free-throw line. In comparison, John Brown shot 22-61 (.361) from the field, 13-40 (.325) from deep, and 13-19 (.684) from the charity stripe. 

The Drovers scored 34 points in the paint and hauled in 44 rebounds. In comparison, the Golden Eagles scored 28 points in the paint and grabbed 44 rebounds. 

USAO committed 11 turnovers, which led to 17 points for JBU. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles fumbled the ball 10 times, resulting in 14 points for the Drovers.

USAO was whistled for 17 fouls, while JBU was called for 16 violations.

 

Four different Drovers scored in double digits, led by Jamouri McCalister's triple-double. McCalister concluded with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. It is the first triple-double for USAO since January 7, 2023, when Langston Gaither went for 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists at Central Christian College. 

Mohand Ammad contributed 17 points and seven rebounds, while Chris Yapo posted his double-double of the season with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and a pair of steals. Lendy Holmes finished with 10 points and a pair of rebounds.

Roman Lutton and Sam Faraday-Bensley each tallied eight points and two rebounds. Bryce Cowns closed with six points and three rebounds.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers now look ahead to a huge matchup at Mid-America Christian University on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM CT in Oklahoma City, Okla.
