Drovers Make a Statement on the Road at Texas Wesleyan

FORT WORTH, Texas – Thursday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-15, 5-13 SAC) earned its fourth win in the last six games, with an impressive 80-58 triumph on the road at Texas Wesleyan University (18-6, 14-5 SAC).

 

The Drovers were hot to start the game, going on a 13-3 run prior to holding a 19-9 advantage midway through the half. USAO closed the half strong and took a 43-30 advantage into the break.

Following halftime, the Rams slowly chipped away at their deficit and trailed by only four points (49-45) with 12:40 remaining in the game. Texas Wesleyan remained within striking distance with 5:36 to play, trailing 57-52. However, the Drovers would then catch fire and closed the game on a 23-6 run to earn the win.

 

At the conclusion of the contest, USAO's offense shot 29-59 (.492) from the field, 4-18 (.222) from beyond the arc, and 18-25 (.720) from the free-throw line. In comparison, TX WES shot 22-58 (.379) from the field, 2-24 (.083) from deep, and 12-24 (.500) from the charity stripe.

The Drovers scored 46 points in the paint and hauled in 30 rebounds. In comparison, the Rams scored 32 points in the paint and grabbed 37 rebounds.

USAO committed 12 turnovers, which led to seven points for TX WES. Meanwhile, the Rams fumbled the ball 18 times, resulting in 25 points for the Drovers. USAO was whistled for 19 fouls, and TX WES committed 21 fouls.

 


Four different Drovers scored in double figures, led by Mohand Ammad's efficient 22-point performance. Ammad shot 8-13 from the field, 2-4 from deep, and 4-4 at the free-throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds.

Jamouri McCalister contributed 21 points on 7-11 shooting from the field, along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Bryce Cowns finished with 17 points and five steals, while Lendy Holmes closed with 11 pointsand four rebounds.

Chris Yapo added six points, five rebounds, and three blocks off the bench. Elijah Burney dished out a team-high of five assists.

The Drovers will return home for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 14 as they host Nelson University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM CT inside Drover Fieldhouse.
