USAO’s Season Comes to an End in the SAC Tournament Championship Game

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Thursday night, the No. 6 seeded University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-8-4, 4-4-1 SAC) suffered a heartbreaking 3-1 loss in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship game at No. 1 Mid-America Christian University (17-0-3, 8-0-1 SAC). 

Earlier this season, the Drovers faced the No. 1 ranked Evangels and gave them all they could handle, forcing the game to end in a 1-1 draw. Additionally, the fierce rivals faced each other in last year's SAC Tournament championship game and the Evangels came away with a 3-0 win.

The Evangels controlled the possession of the ball for majority of the first half, but the score remained tied at 0-0 until the 44^th minute when MACU scored on a rebound off a penalty-kick attempt.

Following the break, the score remained 1-0 until the 78^th minute when Callum Shepherd second goal of the season to pull the score even. However, the Evangels immediately reclaimed the lead with a goal only 20 seconds later. MACU added an insurance goal with only three seconds remaining in regulation to close out the game.

As a team, USAO attempted eight shots, with three being on goal, while MACU attempted 15 shots, with seven being on target. The Drovers were whistled for 17 fouls, while the Evangels were only called for six infractions.
