Rollins Beats the Buzzer as the Drovers Win on the Road at Southwestern Christian

BETHANY, Okla. – Thursday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (15-4, 10-3 SAC) earned an exhilarating 67-65 buzzer-beater victory on the road at Southwestern Christian University (8-9, 5-8 SAC). With the win, the Drovers improve to 22-11 against the Eagles in head-to-head matchups since Nov. 2012. Furthermore, USAO has emerged victorious in 12 of the last 13 meetings between the conference foes.

 

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, and at the end of the first quarter the score was knotted at 13-13. In the second quarter, both offenses settled in and the Drovers narrowly outscored the Eagles 24-21 to take a 37-34 advantage into the break.

Following halftime, the score remained tight for the entirety of the third quarter, with SCU outscoring USAO 23-20 to take a 57-57 tie into the fourth. Both offenses went cold in the fourth, but the Drovers managed to come out on top as Jordyn Rollins scored on a put-back layup just before the buzzer sounded.

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 22-52 (.423) from the field, 7-14 (.500) from beyond the arc, and 16-22 (.727) from the free-throw line. In comparison, SCU shot 25-60 (.417) from the field, 7-21 (.333) from deep, and 8-14 (.571) from the charity stripe.

The Drovers scored 30 points in the paint and hauled in 39 rebounds. In comparison, the Eagles scored 34 points in the paint and grabbed 31 rebounds.

USAO committed 23 turnovers, resulting in 20 points for SCU, while the Eagles fumbled the ball 16 times, leading to 12 points for the Drovers. USAO was whistled for 17 fouls, while SCU was called for 14 violations.

 

The USAO offense was led by four double digit scoring performances, including Nyapar Mathot leading the way with 17 points and eight rebounds. Ti'Alone Banks contributed 16 points and five rebounds, trailed by the hero Jordyn Rollins with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Chaniya Felton added 10 points and three steals.

Evangelia Davlakou concluded with six points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Mya Brown added five points, four rebounds, and four assists.

The Drovers will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 29 as they host College of the Ozarks. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM CT inside Drover Fieldhouse.
