Drovers Perform Strong at UCO Weilert Open
NORMAN, Okla. – On Saturday, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma women's and men's track and field teams competed at the Weilert Open, which was hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma (NCAA DII).
The men's squad had several standout performances at the meet, and Chris Wise even earned Sooner Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for his impressive finish in shot put. Wise earned a third-place finish overall, with a throw of 13.63 meters. Wise's third-place finish is the best finish for a shot-putter in USAO history!
The Drovers 4x400 meter relay team finished with a time of 3:19.62, which currently ranks as the fourth best time in the NAIA this season. The four student-athletes that make up the USAO 4x400 team are Tucker Mora, Justin Norman, Robert Williams, and Trashaun Taylor.
Shah'ty Carolina competed in the 800-meter run and finished in 10th-place with a time of 2:12.23. Andres Slaughter also competed in the 800-meter run and finished in 13th-place with a time of 2:13.38. Justin Norman had a strong performance in the 600-yard run, finishing in 1:20.78, good for ninth-place. James Jones competed in the one-mile race and he finished in 12th-place with a final time of 4:43.25. Brandon Herrera finished shortly after Jones in the mile, with an official time of 5:06.90. Elvis Samoei concluded with a 13th-place finish in the 3-kilometer race with a time of 9:50.21.
On the women's side, a familiar face led the way. Roshae Burrel (SR/Portland, Jamaica)l continued to have tremendous success following an outstanding cross-country season. Burrell finished in first-place out of 21 competitors in the 600-yard race, with an official time of 1:32.24. Kellee Stubbs (JR/Bahamas) made USAO history by being the first woman to compete in the weight throw. Stubbs finished in 12th-place with a throw of 10.51 meters.
The Drovers women's and men's track and field teams will be back in action on January 24 and 25 when they compete at the Northwest Open at Northwest Missouri State University (NCAA DII) in Maryville, Mo.
