Drovers Tame the Lions in Straight Sets

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Friday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (7-3, 1-1 SAC) got back on track with an impressive three-set sweep against Langston University (5-6, 1-1 SAC). The Drovers have now won seven of their last eight matches overall, and they improve to 8-5 against the Lions all-time, dating to 2021. Furthermore, USAO has emerged victorious in each of the last seven meetings between the conference foes. 

Friday's first set was tightly contested, but the Drovers were able to cling to a 25-23 win. USAO dominated the second set and cruised to a 25-15 triumph, prior to an exhilarating 27-25 triumph in the third and final set.

As a team, the Drover offense produced a .170 attack percentage with 39 kills, while the Lions recorded a .112 attack percentage and 36 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 38 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 42 digs and 11.0 total blocks. Langston produced 35 assists, 37 digs, and 11.0 total blocks. Additionally, USAO recorded seven service aces, while committing only five service errors, in comparison to Langston's one ace and six errors. 

The USAO offense was led by Chloe Conover's nine kills on a .263 attack percentage. Conover also produced a solo block, three block assists, and five digs. 

Samantha Perez contributed eight kills, three aces, and a team-high of 12 digs. Giselle Calderon was very efficient offensively, putting away six kills on a .500 attack percentage, in addition to a pair of block assists. Jaliyah Cox also chipped in six kills in the win.

Ytzel Garcia distributed 20 assists, along with three aces and seven digs. Bailey Makahununiu dished out 15 assists.

Brynlee Birney tallied eight digs, trailed by Alacia Ledoux with seven.

The Drovers will return to Brisco McPherson Court on Saturday Sept. 6 as they host Central Christian College (Kan.). First serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM CT inside Drover Fieldhouse.
