Drovers Claim Historic Sweep at JBU

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Friday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (10-7, 4-4 SAC) cruised their way to a three-set sweep on the road at John Brown University (6-10, 2-6 SAC). The victory was the first in program history against the Golden Eagles, who had claimed each of the previous 16 meetings, dating to the 2016 season. 

 

The Drovers jumped out to an early lead in the first set and controlled a 13-5 advantage midway through. USAO cruised the rest of the way and opened the match with a 25-11 win.

USAO used another good start to claim an 11-4 lead, prior to taking a two-set advantage with a 25-14 triumph in the second set.

The third set started similarly to the first two, with USAO jumping out to an early advantage. The Drovers possessed a 13-10 lead midway through, before wrapping up the sweep with a 25-17 performance.

 

As a team, the Drover offense produced an impressive .293 attack percentage with 35 kills, while the Golden Eagles recorded only a -.021 attack percentage and 21 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 31 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 44 digs and 7.0 total blocks. JBU produced 21 assists, 31 digs, and 2.0 total blocks. Additionally, USAO recorded a dozen service aces, while committing five service errors, in comparison to John Brown's four aces and four errors. 

 

The USAO offense was led by an impressive double-double from Chloe Conover. The high-flier tallied 12 kills on a .556 attack percentage, in addition to 11 digs and 4.0 blocks. 

Samantha Perez added seven kills, five digs, and a pair of blocks. Morgan Kobe was also a force, recording 6 kills on a stellar .667 attack percentage, along with four aces and three blocks. Jaliyah Cox produced five kills, followed by Giselle Calderon with four. 

Ytzel Garcia distributed 26 assists, in addition to three aces and six digs. 

Brynlee Birney anchored the defense with 13 digs, and tallied a trio of aces.

The Drovers will be back in action tomorrow (Sept. 27) as they face College of the Ozarks at 1:00 PM CT in Point Lookout, Mo.
