No. 5 USAO Splits Twin Bill on the Road at No. 9 OLLU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Tuesday afternoon, the No. 5 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (19-7, 8-2 SAC) split a double header on the road at No. 9 ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (21-4, 9-0 RRAC). The Drovers opened the day with a 6-3 win, followed by a 7-2 loss in game two.

 

GAME 1

The first game of the day opened with a pair of scoreless innings prior to the Drovers claiming the first lead with a trio of runs in the top of the third inning. USAO stretched the lead to 5-0 in the fourth, prior to OLLU scoring its first run in the bottom of the fifth. The Drovers added an insurance run in the seventh, prior to the Saints scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

 

As a team, the Drovers offense produced seven hits and reached on three walks, while the Saints tallied 11 hits and drew three walks. OLLU committed one fielding error, while USAO was unblemished on defense.

 

Aubree Ferguson was stellar in the circle, to improve her record to 9-2 this season. Ferguson went all seven innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits and she struck out three batters.

 

USAO's offense was led by a pair of two-hit performances from Malea McMurtrey and Jordan Ramsay. McMurtrey went 2-4 with two runs batted in, and Ramsay went 2-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and two runs batted in.

Taylor Cronic finished 1-2 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Leighanne Eaton closed the game 1-3 with a run batted in and Kinzie Williams went 1-4 with a double and a run scored.  

 

GAME 2

Following a scoreless first inning, the OLLU offense exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Drovers trimmed their deficit to four with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Saints once again gained separation with two runs in the sixth. USAO plated one run in the top of the seventh, but it was too little, too late.

 

Kinzie Williams and Maddy Baber each doubled in game two, while Malea McMurtrey, Leighanne Eaton, Lakelynn Thompson, and Taylor Cronic each singled.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will return home to host Central Christian College this weekend (March 20-21). Friday's double header is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM CT, followed by a noon start time for Saturday's twin-bill at Bill Smith Ballpark.
